KNSG & AKTH Reenact and Fine-tune Collaboration and Way Forward*

The Kano State Government says it would continue to collaborate and explore more avenues of opportunities and Fine-tune strategies in the already existing cordial relationship with Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) in an effort to provide qualitative and efficient health care services in the state.

The Commissioner for Health Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf dropped the hints shortly after leading a high powered delegation from his ministry and all Head of Agencies in a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director of AKTH  Professor Abdulrahman  Abba Sheshe in his office.

The Commissioner further explained that the visit was the first of its kind since the establishment of the hospital in 1986, for a commissioner to come along, with the entire management staff for a courtesy visit of this nature is unprecedented

"Dr Labaran said the essence of the visit is to strengthen further the cordial relationship between Kano State Ministry of Health and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital considering the fact that we are aiming at the same goal which is saving lives and service to humanity"

He also sought the support and collaboration of the AKTH in some areas of concern, that need to be addressed squarely, and synergy between the 2 parties, so that people in the state would benefit from the consolidated gain so far achieved.

The Commissioner elaborated on some of the areas in which there is a need for collaboration with AKTH in residency in some departments like, ophthalmology, O&G Radiologist and Medicine, which already have been accredited in MMSH and Nassarawa Hospitals. He appealed to the management of AKTH to use their resources in those departments to leverage the opportunity to train their residents, because there are some cases that are not seen in AKTH, but are seen in the state facilities.

Dr. Labaran also reiterated emergency response in times of epidemics or acute emergencies, which he said the state at the moment has not met the complement of required manpower, in that direction, but AKTH have, but the state is working on modalities to improve that and already constituted KNCDC Agency, which would soon be signed into law by governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which would improve significantly in the area of emergency response, he also highlighted the need for exchange program for Medical and paramedical staff among other interventions.

Responding, CMD AKTH Professor Abdulrahman Abba Sheshe, expressed delight for the visit and the area of collaboration with the state ministry of Health, he dwelt on the stewardship and leadership style of the present administration for giving the health sector a facelift within a short period of time which is unprecedented in the history of the State

The CMD said he would discuss with his management team to see the areas of possible collaboration for effective and efficient healthcare services delivery in Kano State and beyond.He said their Doors are always open and are also serving the Good people of Kano State

Similarly, a tripartite committee was set off by the commissioner to be chaired by the Director General State Agency for the Control of Aids (SACA) Dr Usman Bashir , with Members driven from AKTH and SMOH, that include CMAC AKTH, DCMAC AKTH, DMS SMOH, DMS HMB, mandated to fashion out the Collaboration strategy and implementation.

Meanwhile, the commissioners  team visited the School of Nursing and Midwifery Kano where he was warmly received by the principal Hajiya Mairo S. Muhammad and conducted him round, where he inspected some abandoned and ongoing projects executed by the previous administrations, the state and level of dilapidation of the access road, obstruction along the gate, which is causing flood during the rainy season, and called on students to face their studies seriously to achieve t
