Kano state government says it will continue to focus attention on building the capacity of civil servants, to bridge digital competence gaps.
The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya stated this at the presentation of certificates of completion to 65 trainees of a 6 - weeks computer appreciation course, organized for the staff of the ministry, and conducted in conjunction with MIK Info Tech Ltd.
According to him, “this training is one of the government's priorities, to ensure that service delivery is effective and efficient, in line with prevailing trends all over the world”.
Comrade Waiya maintained that in a fast changing world, information dissemination relies chiefly on digital platforms, thus, ICT training would help not only information officers, but other categories of the workers shall also ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information as well as promote e-governance.
The commissioner therefore, advised the participants to further focus significantly on updating their skills and knowledge, pointing out that for them to be relevant in the scheme of things, they must take deliberate steps to maximize their individual potentials.
He particularly tasked information officers to pay attention to English language proficiency, emphasizing that doing so is essential for not only public presentations but also managing public relations and preventing costly miscommunications.
Comrade Waiya, used the occassion to announce the setting up of a three man committee in the ministry to facilitate the documentation of those who are interested in going back to school, for possible support, especially those who want to pursue higher education programme, pointing out that “as long as I remain Commissioner in this ministry, I will support skills development because doing so will improve your productivity and competence
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer, MIK Info Tech, Eng. Mahmud Isa Kawo stated that the training included basic computing skills, word processing, and other skills that would enable the participants become IT savvy within a short period of time
Highlights of the occasion included, the presentation of computer laptops to the three best performing trainees as well as certificates to participants.
