Kano State government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, have been urged to ensure a smooth hand over of Falgore Game Reserve to National Park Service due to the importance of such move.
This call was made by Kano State Concerned Citizens Forum in a statement issued to newsmen Sunday in Kano.
According to them, upgrading Falgore Game Reserve to 'national park' status will have multiple benefitss to the people of the state, which, according to them, include providing job opportunities at the federal government, safeguarding irrigation farming in the area, wildlife conservation, and boosting tourism sector.
The Concerned Citizens further lamented the condition of the game reserve, saying if it did not get the adequate attention it needs, the 920 square kilometer-forest will be completely destroyed by illegal wood loggers, charcoal makers, and landgrabbers.
They said around 1,000 people are going into the reserve daily to cut down trees, a sad development that forced some tree species into extinction.
Members of the forum then appealed to the Governor to rescue the game reserve by facilitating the effective hand over to the National Park Service without further delay.
