The State Project Coordinator Agro Climatic Resilience In Semi - Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim enjoined communities and miners in Yansabo community to desist and suspend their operation of sand evacuation around Yansabo community in Tofa LGA, of Kano State.
The Coordinator made the called when he visited the area during the routine sensitization on the good environmental practices, effect of climate change and indiscriminate failing of trees.
Dr. Dahir further stated that human activities have been identified as a major contributing factor to climate change, unless communities actively participate in the struggle for the deliverance of the environment from the effect of climate change through environment friendly activities like plantings of more trees, minimizing carbon emissions, replacing fossil fuels to an alternative environmentally friendly source of energy and restoration of our ecosystem.
He pointed out that, the root cause of so many ailments is attributed to the poor quality of the environment, in which we are in today and the multiplayer effect goes beyond human health, in a statement signed by the communication office of the ACReSAL Kano Maryam Abdulkadir and made available to IGGnews, further explained that,
ACReSAL as a project seeks to address the general environmental challenges and land degredation especially at rural areas, with a view to enhance socio-economic development of the people in the area.
Meanwhile, Following up with a complaint by the leadership of the community during the sensitization visit, the PC expressed worried over the unethical attitude of some people that engaged in sand mining around the Dam premises which may cause erosion, in accessibility and hampering the smooth farming activities around the area among other challenges, he therefore ordered for the suspension of such act, pending investigation of the matter by the relevant authorities, he warned.
The District Head of Tofa LGA Alhaji Isyaku Umar Tofa represented by Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar (Turakin Tofa) commended the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his continued support to the project for the benefit of Tofa community and beyond.
Alhaji Sanusi Tofa further expressed delight for the construction of Yansabo water conservation structures which has already started yielding positive results, adding that farmers have already swung into irrigation farming with the support of this Dam.
the Environmental Safeguard Officer Alhaji Mukhtar Bello gave a highlight on the project background right from its former self to how it turned a new leaf and got christened "ACReSAL".
